Operating Unit

The Operating Unit master setting allows you to define the distinct business divisions or branches within your organization. By establishing these units, you can segregate data, manage location-specific workflows, and ensure that shipments, vehicles, and personnel are assigned to the correct regional or functional branch.

  4. Set Status Ensure the Status toggle is set to Active. This makes the unit available for selection across other modules, such as Shipment creation or Driver assignment.

Notes / Best Practices

  • Organizational Hierarchy: Operating Units typically represent the highest level of geographical or functional division in the DMS. Ensure names are unique and easily recognizable.

  • Data Segregation: Assigning records to specific Operating Units allows for more granular reporting when using the DMS Dashboard or Reports modules.

  • Deactivating Units: If a branch closes, switch the status to "Inactive" rather than deleting it. This preserves the historical data and audit trails associated with that unit.

  • User Permissions: In more advanced setups, access to specific documents or shipments can be restricted based on the user's assigned Operating Unit.
